#1 Sit down with a deck of index cards and fill out

Who, What, Where, When, Why for all of the different jobs you held in the military. Many times your MOS may have stayed the same but you were assigned different jobs. So for now we want to encourage you to write it down. Did you educate, train, counsel, save time, distribute resources to maximize inventory ?

#2 Translate ‘military terms’ to civilian ‘American English’. Drop your pride and know that we love you for serving our country, however, if you capitalize on being perceived as a valuable professional, you must communicate in a language that hiring officials comprehend.

#3 Paint a picture of using charts, graphs, circles to demonstrate how you and your team accomplished a major goal while in the military. I am hoping that you will be able to verbalize your values. Hiring officials want professional who have character, honestly, integrity. Being able to verbalize your values are the highlight of tools that professionals owe it to themselves to share with the workforce. Now write out the things you accomplished in your military career that demonstrate the values that are important to you.

#4 Find a civilian professional association to join that links your military career to a civilian career. Are you entering logistics, warehouse management, financial careers, human resources, or food services? See asaecenter slash org and search for association under the directory tab. Membership has its privileges.

Be sure to utilize services offered from your ACAP Center, but the professionals at the ACAP Center are available to guide you. You will still have to do the hard work of verbalizing who you are as a professional and what you hope to accomplish in your job search.
