Are You Fighting For Your Future?

Students frequently attend college with the stated intention of gaining the education and experience that will launch their careers in the field of their choice. These serious students recognize the role that a good education can play in their lives and tend to think about their “tomorrow” more than most.

For most students, college is an exciting time of metamorphosis. It's a time when they expand their knowledge, participate in the opportunities, discover their capabilities and demonstrate their potential. That's why it is important for college students to embrace every aspect of the college experience. When they do, it will be a miraculous time of change and growth.

As you might expect, students must decide what the college experience means to each one of them individually.
“Today is your opportunity to change from what you were yesterday to what you will be tomorrow.”
-- Bob Roth

These transition years will shape each student's future. In college, students have many choices to make. They can be open to the opportunities to learn, experience and grow or they can close them off. However, only those students who remain open to new experiences and are willing to participate in a variety of activities can discover the breadth and depth of their capabilities.

Wise students realize that participation and active involvement is the best way to:
  • Expand their knowledge
  • Find a direction and goal
  • Build a list of successes and accomplishments
  • Develop job skills
  • Improve leadership and communication skills
  • Strengthen self-confidence
  • Build relationships
  • Improve business and social skills
  • Discover their talents
  • Practice life skills
  • Launch their careers
Every college freshman should ask and answer two questions:
  • What person do I want to become?
  • How can I become that person?
Only when a student figures out what they want to become and how they will try to get there can they begin to seriously pursue their goals. That's when they can begin to fight for their success.

In these costly and uncertain times, college is not something to be squandered, wasted or discarded. College is an opportunity for serious students to discover, grow and take a gigantic step forward, a step that can launch their careers. That's why it is important for students to use every “today” to prepare for the future.

Successful students don't look for the easy way out, skip classes, take shortcuts, ignore assignments, cram for tests or do only the minimum required. The best students are willing to make the personal sacrifices and put forth the exceptional effort that is required to find success in college, in their careers and in life endeavors.

College is a special time when future thinking students accept and embrace responsibility, perform at their highest level and are determined to prove their worth. Because they understand that college is an important gateway to their own tomorrow, these students not only seek success, they are prepared to fight for it. Therefore, the question for each student becomes, “Are you fighting for your future?”
