Is Coaching for You?
Share
Coaching is one of the fastest growing professions today, yet many do not know exactly what a coach is (outside of the sports venue) and how to utilize the services of a coach. On February 6, 2006, as part of the celebration of International Coaching Week, a coalition of Milwaukee area coaches will be offering a free evening event to learn more about coaching and meet business coaches http://www.regonline.com/83777

Although it is concerned with helping others and shares some commonalties with other professions, it is not therapy; it is not counseling; it is not consulting; and it is not sports coaching.

Coaching is a way to help people make the best use of their own resources. It is a way to bring out their best and build self-confidence and results. Coaching helps people set goals and then reach those goals. Coaching is goal and results-oriented and can focus on virtually any area of life or business.

Coaching typically takes place on a one-to-one basis and can be successfully accomplished face-to-face or through telephone and e-mail contact. I have had clients who got what they wanted in one session, and others who utilize my services for ongoing projects and development over many years. The client determines the focus and the term of the coaching relationship.

Coaches teach, explore alternatives, inspire, act as a sounding board, build confidence and capability, facilitate learning, ask questions, listen with compassion, develop skills, create ownership, provide a challenge, act as a model, and explore potential. A coach often acts as a partner, providing clients with tools, support, and structure to achieve more than they might be able to do by themselves.

Almost everyone can benefit from coaching. To determine whether a coach might be of value to you, consider any of the following questions: Are you getting the most out of your business or career? Are you doing what you want to be doing? Do you need an objective feedback source for business challenges? Do you have recurring challenges you want to eliminate? Are you looking for improvement in performance on the job?

I invite you to join us on February 6 to meet business coaches and learn more about coaching - what it is and what it can do for you. I guarantee it will be worth your time!
