Let Focus And Passion Pave Your Career Path!

As an executive resume writer, I often speak with clients who are either at a career crossroads out of their choosing or by circumstance (e.g. recession, life change, etc.), and these clients are simply looking for an answer to the toughest career question: What should I do?

While a simple question, the answer is certainly different for everyone and can vary based on skills, experiences, and passion. Focusing on passion, I spoke with a young woman at a Center where I volunteer career and resume writing advice, and what struck me about her was the level of commitment and certainty she had about her career path – nursing. She didn’t have a strong work history, she didn’t even have a high school diploma (yet). But, she had focus and that can be more powerful than any job skill. Frankly, I’ve met CEOs with less focus than her!

One of the best ways to nail down your focus is to determine the times in your life when you were happiest and most fulfilled, and examine what about those times was so enriching for you. Were you helping someone, learning a great new skill, or simply sharing your knowledge with a friend? All of these can be indicators of your hidden passion.

Question yourself and find out what your passion is. If money weren’t an object for you, what would you do? The answer to that question and other career indicators was certain for the young woman I met, and I hope it is certain for you as well.
