In December 2010, United States economists proudly projected the job market would return to “normal” within four years, while other economists struggle to define what the new future “normal” will be. This information provides no clarity to those besieged by unemployment. In fact, it’s pretty elusive. Job seekers are turning over rocks, all sorts of rocks in search of opportunities or at least viable leads, in hopes of keeping their households financially afloat.

Yes, Facebook is an excellent way to keep in touch with friends, but it’s also a fabulous opportunity to let your friends and their associates know you’re in the job market. It may initially be uncomfortable and you may experience some feelings of shame, but consider that one out of every ten people is unemployed. Don’t be ashamed, get proactive! Desperate times call for desperate measures, and our economy hasn’t been this desperate since 1927!
Secondly, create a LinkedIn profile. Linked in is an online professional network that boasts 80 million members and counting. LinkedIn allows you to connect with other professionals, share your resume, experience and broadcast your quest for work. One of the best features of this site is you can view the associations of your friends and if you so choose, request an introduction to a potential employer.
