Position Summary
The Director of the SOM Learning and Work Environment (LWE) will assume a leadership role in covering four primary areas to enhance an inclusive learning and work environment for students, trainees (post docs, residents, and fellows), faculty, and staff in the UNC School of Medicine (SOM): 1) Chair a LWE Committee made up of leaders from across the SOM who oversee efforts related to creating a positive work and learning environment, 2) Supervise professionalism training initiatives within the SOM, 3) Provide training and education to students, trainees, faculty, and staff, if directed to by EOC or SOM HR, and 4) lead efforts to improve the learning and work environment in the Office of Graduate Education (OGE) by working with students, post docs, staff, and faculty across SOM basic science departments and centers. The position will work collaboratively with leaders in the SOM, Human Resources, and the Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office to lead and align efforts to best support students, faculty, and staff in the SOM. The position will provide high-level counsel on best practices for creating and facilitating a learning and work environment strategy in addition to initiatives, programs, and policies that encourage community, well-being, and belonging across the SOM. The Director of the SOM LWE will work closely with leadership and staff in the University EOC/Title IX Office, OMSE Undergraduate Medical Student Education, OGE Basic Sciences, and UNC SOM Human Resources (HR). It is critical that this position demonstrate excellent judgment and have complete understanding of relevant EOC and HR policies related to mistreatment so that they can work effectively with those units. The position will enhance a culture of understanding and clarity on where and how to report mistreatment issues, ability to speak up about mistreatment issues, enhance knowledge on mistreatment policy, and provide education to faculty, staff, students, and trainees.

This position is eligible for a sign on bonus of up to 20% of the annualized salary to be paid out in the first month on payroll, subject to the pertinent university and UNC system policies.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Relevant Baccalaureate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience working in higher education related to education, training, reporting, and consultation related to preventing or addressing mistreatment issues associated with diversity, equity, and inclusion.
