Responsibilities

Established in 1986, Anchor Hospital specializes in the treatment of behavioral health and addictive disease disorders for teens, adults and seniors. Our is located on a secluded, 55-acre campus, less than three miles from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and is accredited by the Joint Commission.

The Lead Mental Health Aide provides direct care to adolescents and adult patients with psychiatric disorders to ensure the safety and well-being of the patients. Lead MHAs have the primary responsibility for ensuring the patient's safety on the unit. Lead MHAs are responsible for understanding and using the least restrictive interventions per facility policy and avoiding seclusion and restraint whenever possible.

  • Act as Team Leader for other Mental Health Aide Tech, providing supervision support to MHA's as directed by charge nurse and milieu manager.

  • Assist in providing nursing unit orientation to new hire MHAs, including duties and responsibilities.

  • Assist in the admission process, including obtaining vital signs, safety search of patient and belongings, obtaining urine specimens and orienting new patients to the unit and their program.

  • Monitor vitals signs and assist patients with activities of daily living. Monitor unit MHAs compliance with assigned vital signs and ADLs

  • Ensure precaution protocols are followed, and encourage patients to actively participate in all program activities.

  • Assign group coverage as directed by Charge Nurse, monitor that groups are appropriately planned and presented for designated population.

  • Participate in hospital emergency codes necessary to the unit's and the hospital's safe operation.

  • Maintain patient, program, department and related documentation ensuring that forms are properly and promptly completed and routed. When assigned by Charge Nurse, assist the mileu manager to oversee that MHAs on unit are completing assigned paperwork.

Qualifications

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent. Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field preferred.

Experience:

Prefer experience in a psychiatric hospital setting as a Mental Health Aide working with children, adolescents, geriatric and/or adults.

License/Certification:

Current CPR Certification required. Current Handle with Care and Verbal De-escalation certification.

Skills:

Demonstrates the ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Perform ADL's with patients.

Physical Requirements:

Work is physically and mentally demanding. Extensive walking, standing, sitting and climbing stairs. Must be able to lift or move over fifty (50) pounds.

Other:

Performs other duties as may be assigned by the CNO, ACNO, RN Manager, RN Supervisors, Charge RN and/or CEO.
