Job Description

The Genetics Program Coordinator position will closely collaborate with and support the Genetic Counselor. There will be a focus on executing administrative tasks related to genetic testing of patients in our cancer center. Daily tasks may include guiding patients to the phlebotomy lab, packaging and transporting patient samples, completing lab paperwork under clinician guidance, and communicating with patients, genetic testing laboratories, and other clinic staff, as needed.

Calling patient pre-visit to ensure patient is prepared for appointment.

Collecting medical/ family history. Constructing pedigrees pre-visit in Progeny database.

Assess patient barriers to access prior to visit and communicate with cancer center experts to address said barriers on behalf of patient, i.e. transportation, parking, financial counseling, etc.

Handle multiple levels of patient communication before and after visits such as pre-visit phone calls and inbasket messages to ensure patient readiness and resolve barriers to access.

Document efforts in EPIC to ensure visibility to clinic staff and communicate any gaps that require further follow-up.

Work with lab referrals technical specialist and provider(s) to ensure all documentation is completed

Support patient check-out process and scheduling follow-up

Complete genetic testing lab paperwork with clinician's guidance

Assuring required insurance documentation accompanies sample for pre-authorization purposes

Review lab portals/communication method to track timely results

Work with Genetic Counselor to support appropriate patient follow-up appointment

Support patient access to clinic/virtual visit

Attend multiple tumor conferences as determined

Follow-up with providers/ RN Navigators to ensure successful referrals to additional support services

Support Genetic Counselor with program growth efforts

Act as liasion with marketing department to develop educational materials

Identify potential educational, research, and administrative projects
